In the first half of 2008, log imports in Manzhouli Port declined obviously. Log imports from Russia in Manzhouli port was 4.3 million m3, with import value of $540 million, down 33.1% and 13.9% respectively. In June 2008, log imports per month declined by 41.7% to 489,000 m3.

The main reason causing the decline of log imports is the rise of export tariff of logs in Russia. Russia is one of the main log importer of China. However, since in the second half of 2007, Russia has improved the export tariff from 6.5% to 5%.
