In the first 8 months in 2008, the respective volumes of log and lumber imported through customs were 20.8546 million m3 and 4.5391 million m3 and the importing sums of them were $ 0.36376569 million and $ 0.12961478 million. The volume of log imported through Manzhouli custom and the volume of lumber imported through Shanghai custom both ranked top one among other customs in China. During this period, the volume and sum of log imported through Manzhouli custom were 5.2977 million m3 and $ 0.6812972 billion, which covered 25.4% and 18.73% of the total. The top 3 importing customs of log in turn were Manzhouli, Harbin and Nanjing. The volume and sum of lumber imported through Shanghai custom were 1.1163 million m3 and $ 0.3934529 billion, which covered 24.59% and 30.36% of the total. The top 3 importing customs of lumber in turn were Shanghai, Shenzhen and Manzhouli. It is remarkable that although Nanjing custom’s log importing volume was less than the above two customs’, its importing sum ranked top one. Meanwhile Shanghai custom’s lumber importing volume and sum both ranked top one. To sum up, northern customs took priority in the importing volume, while southern customs took priority in the importing value.
