According to Ningbo custom, from January to September, the volume of log mported by Ningbo custom totaled 0.13 million m3, and 0.123 million m3 was from Russia. The average importing price was $ 127.1 per m3, which increased by 40% compared to the same period of last year.

Russia has always been a major exporter of log to China, and 70% of log in Chinese market are imported from Russia. The appreciation of Russias  Maple, Oak and Ash has brought along the price appreciation of log in other areas. For example, at the end of September, the price of Golden Teak increased by 5%, and that of Kapru increased by 10%.

One reason lead to the aprreciation of price is "Manufacturing Trade Ban Species Catalog" carried out by the Sate Custom at the end of 2007. According to it, those lumber and furniture made by Chinese domestic timber are banned to be exported, however, those made by foreign timber are free at exporting. Therefore, many manufacturers in order to make a living increased their demands for foreign timber. Meanwhile, the log supply has becomed increasingly scanty because many log exporting countries carried out policies to decrease their log exports.
