Local furniture retailers say consumers shouldnt expect to see any significant increase in the price of furniture.
"I havent seen any price increases from manufacturers; as far as furniture, I havent seen anything," said John Muccitelli, owner of Park Furniture, 630 N. Fourth Ave. "Most of the increases have been in flooring, because flooring is a by-product of oil."
Doug Wolf, president of Wolf Furniture, Bellwood, said the furniture marketplace is very competitive and retailers are doing everything they can to avoid passing on costs to customers.
"It is as competitive as I have seen since the early 90s," Wolf said. "Aggressive retailers will do all that they can not to increase prices. We are doing all we can to make furniture a better value."
Retailers are faced with increasing prices, said Jim Covino, owner of Covino Home Furnishings, 1201 Pleasant Valley Blvd.
He said expenses have increased, but they have cut prices in order to make sales.
"We are doing everything we can to make sales, and that is not by raising prices," Covino said.
Robert Fiore, president of Fiore Furniture, 201 Cayuga Ave., said there have been some price increases but nothing significant.
"In the beginning of April, we saw some increases from some of our vendors but nothing major," Fiore said.
